Hancock
Just got back from watching Hancock. First off I'm getting old, days gone by I could have stayed up till 3 easily. Now 9, 9:30 rolls around and I'm yawning. But that is beside the point. On to Hancock. One of my favorites parts of the movie is Will Smith plays a drunken, assholish superhero. Just the kind of superhero I'd want to be. The story and setup wasn't bad and it was a nice popcorn type of flick. Even though I do not agree with his recent stuff about Scientology.
My biggest problem with the movie and actually many recent movies have this problem too. Even my highly loved Battlestar Galactica. It seems to be a shot from a hand held camera that zooms in on the face. Then proceeds to follow every single movement making it very difficult to follow. Maybe it is because I'm getting old but damn if it isn't disorientating. Hancock was the worst of the more recent movies I've seen. I don't understand why the director thinks it is a good idea to do this. Just like when action happens taking the camera and shaking it. Your brain processes all of that out in real life. It does not convey a sense of action, I feel it covers up crappy action sequences that they skimped on. Look at many of the kung fu movies, or even The Matrix, the camera is still and you can see what is going on.
Overall: meh+. I wouldn't go see it again. Next week I'll probably go see The Dark Knight which from what I have been hearing is outstanding.
